MiDCOM had the opportunity to be associated with a Farooq Sheikh, Asha Bhosle and Rekha performs at the I am Asha Concert in Dubai grand event, whereby ASHA Bhonsle, legendary Indian singer celebrated 70 years of Bollywood cinema by performing live at the World Trade Centre in Dubai. It was a truly magical evening which transported the audience through time across 7 decades of Bollywood music by the famous singer. The event was organized to celebrate the legendary singer’s 70th anniversary in Indian cinema which has seen her sing over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages. One of the most eminent and award-winning singer, she has sung in several Indian languages spanning classical, semi-classical and pop. During the 3 hour event, she enthralled the crowd as she took them through a musical journey from a challenged childhood to being with legends such as Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Majrooh Sultanpuri and the Burmans, to being a sister, mother and wife, ably recited by Farooque Shaikh, the evening’s host.
Asha Bhosle was joined by the magnificent queen Padma Shri Rekha for the latter part of the concert as she performed on National-Award-winning ghazal Dil Cheez Kya Hai from the 1981 blockbuster Umrao Jaan. Rekha dressed in a red and gold kanjivaram sari looked glamorous and made the legendary singer dance to her own songs. She said it was a lifelong dream come true to dance on stage when Bhosle performed and requested Bhosle to sing numbers she had already sung in the early part of the show. Yet, the audience seemed to enjoy it. The trio of Asha Bhosle, Rekha and Farooq Sheikh thoroughly entertained the crowd, leaving the audience wanting more — even after three hours.
